Can Social Architecture Fix Your Broken Change Program?
Often we feel a disconnect in our organizational communities and we blame the culture or leaders.
This webinar shows that by thinking like a Social Architect we can identify:
a. what's actually missing
b. how to heal the ‘the fractured communities’
Just like an architect designs spaces to live in, a social architect focuses on the social spaces that form the fabric of our communities.
It is important to pay attention to the connection between who we are (the Self), how we show up (the Social Self) and the collective potential we are capable of (the Collective Self). This is the fabric of our interconnected nature.
During this webinar Luc addresses how we can identify and heal two major disconnects that often lead to dissonance in our change projects. He zooms in on what it takes for a person in charge ('change leader') and for a team member to heal those disconnects. Spoiler alert: there is work for both!

A wonderful clip! I agree, the most important in order to get things done are not the positions. I am convinced that the most important is even not the space (between positions and reporting lines). I agree though that a necessary condition is psychological safety. “A climate in which people feel free to express relevant thoughts and feelings” is indeed necessary AND not sufficient. I agree too that we need a richer use of the space between the reporting lines and the boxes on the organizational chart. I even agree with the idea of multiple layers. My position is that I do not call this “more hierarchy’, I call this ‘more Creative Interchange (CI)’. I call one of the applications of Creative Interchange ‘Crucial dialogues’ (cf. my book ‘Cruciale dialogen’ Garant 2012). And the skill to hold excellent crucial dialogues is what is needed in those different ‘layers’. Regarding your curiosity, Luc, of how the formal hierarchy of the first layer (organizational chart) will respond to the new possibilities that will come out of those new layers. That will depend on the ability of those leaders to live Creative Interchange from the inside out and thus to hold successful crucial dialogues. Regarding your last point: The leadership in future proof organizations: IMHO the (CI) Process IS the Leader! In other words, in order that leaders are capable of holding the space for multiple hierarchies (layers) at the same time those leaders will have to live Creative Interchange from the inside out. And of course, living CI is different to have ‘lip service to CI. Conclusion. What is needed is to re-install Creative Interchange! I use the verb re-install because we are literally born with that process, but do not live it perfectly any more due to the Vicious Circle reality. We need to re-install CI so that we can use it as vehicle for continuous adapting for making our organization future proof. In short, all organizations need - in order to be future proof - is (CI)2 = Continuous Improvement through Creative Interchange! Creatively, Johan

Absolutely agree Daryl - 90% of my engagements involve challenging the assumptions of leadership and helping leadership understand the full impact of the change on themselves first (generally not appreciated at first :). Once we get this sorted out the rest becomes relatively easy. Thanks Daryl for great input.

Well done Luc, Gail, Jennifer & Bill. This has the makings of a significant community: an international community, in service of the OC profession, active both online and offline. The nearest equivalent that I have found is the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI). They grew out of the personal performance improvement community, but the EMEA Chapter in particular have a focus on Organisational Performance Improvement. They also emphasise research evidence-based practice.
